The economic environment of the media market in 2022, Croatia

2022 was year of high economic growth (6,2% GDP) and high inflation (10,7%) with low unemployment (7%). On 1st of January 2023. Croatia entered Eurozone and became part of Schengen area, both having large impact on the 2022 economic growth. At the same time, high inflation nullified real GDP growth leaving households with lower disposable income compared to 2021. The most prominent problem for young Croatians is housing, with property prices rising to record highs in 2022. Compared to 2021, real estate prices increased by 14,8% and that trend shows no signs of abating yet. The media took advantage of the macroeconomic inflation to implement higher inflation themselves, even though their business models were less than averagely affected by increased prices.
