The political environment of the media market in 2022, Bulgaria

For another year Bulgaria witnessed turbulent and dramatic political situation, marked by a series of crises, also having an impact on the local media market. Despite the initial hopes for the newly formed coalition government to bring stability, the political situation remained far from resolved. Inter-institutional conflicts persisted, further exacerbating the negative impact on the political and economic landscape and finally led to the government's collapse, an appointment of a caretaker government, and early parliamentary elections in the autumn followed by new ones in April 2023. Bulgaria faced a significant hurdle which revolves around resolving the ongoing political crisis, establishing a functional government that can effectively tackle critical political, economic, and social issues.
