The Political Environment of the Media Market in Bosnia and Herzegovina 2024

In 2024, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s media landscape was significantly affected by political developments. The U.S. expanded sanctions against several individuals and associated organizations, including media outlets such as Una TV, which ceased operations in the country as a result.

At the same time, the television measurement provider and its peoplemeter-based system faced major setbacks. A new regulation introduced by the Institute of Metrology disrupted the existing setup, halting TV viewership measurement and creating confusion throughout the industry. With no audience data available as of May 2024, broadcasters and advertisers were left in a challenging position.

Fortunately, the media industry responded swiftly and collaboratively through the Joint Industry Committee (JIC), introducing a temporary methodology to maintain operations. Full normalization is expected in 2025, when new legislation is anticipated.

Collectively, these events underscored the urgent need for a more stable and transparent media environment.
