The Political Environment of the Media Market in Croatia 2023

2023 was a relatively quiet year in terms of political turmoil, with no elections and wars in Israel and Ukraine having no impact on the local political scene.

However, Croatia saw another corruption scandal, where a government minister was fired after his adviser was caught attempting to arrange a kickback from a local TV station. This scandal drew attention to the lack of transparency in government advertising and promotion on TV and radio, but no significant legal actions were taken as a result. The situation was especially egregious as the adviser demanded a 50% kickback and never publicly apologized or acknowledged his wrongdoing.
