The Political Environment of the Media Market in Romania 2023

The country continues to be governed by an unusual political alliance—a coalition of socialists and liberals using a rotational system of leadership.

The most important political developments in 2023 included:

  • ·       Judicial reform
  • ·       A new fiscal policy aimed at reducing the budget deficit
  • ·       Reforms in the education system
  • ·       Foreign relations and the war in Ukraine
  • ·       Accession to the Schengen Area
  • ·       Energy policy

·       Protests organized by trade unions, especially in the education, health, and transport sectors.

Another important element is that 2024 is a fully electoral year, with four rounds of elections: local, European parliamentary, parliamentary, and presidential. The first two rounds took place in June 2024, and the debates leading up to them resulted in increased viewership, particularly for news TV stations.
