The Political Environment of the Media Market in the Czech Republic 2023
There was no significant political initiative that directly influenced media spending. However, the Czech Republic's efforts to combat disinformation saw varying levels of success, impacting the media market in different ways.
Criticism arose when a draft action plan, which included proposals for centralizing state advertising and supporting independent media, was leaked. In response to the backlash, the government abolished the Media and Disinformation Commissioner role in early 2023, casting doubt on the future of disinformation policies.
Meanwhile, EU countries and MEPs agreed on a European Media Freedom Act, which aims to provide better protection for the work of journalists and increase transparency in media ownership.
