The radio segment in the CEE, 2022
Radio has gone under a complex transformation, which shows in investments: it kept its average share of 6% on a regional level, but in the overall spending taking up more, now 5%, with an outstanding 11% YoY year growth, equalling 41 million euro more spent on this segment. This transformation encompasses the overall digitalization of the segment, which connects to the rise of on-demand content – not just in video, but audio only too: in Hungary for example, podcasts are the fastest growing area of digital media. According to weCAN experts, radio stations quickly adapted to the online space: while gathering large online follower bases, they integrated their programs and activities into these platforms. Weronika Szwarc-Bronikowska, Vice President of Media People, Poland wrote that crowdfunding is also on the rise among digital audio projects, such as Nowy Świat and 357, who sustain themselves with the help of patrons, and in fact, Radio 357 is the world's largest media project funded by the community.
