TOP 5 consumer trends in Romania, 2023

Re-sale, upcycle and second hand clothing

Community initiatives around pre-loved clothing are growing – from re-sale to swaps shops and upcycling groups. What seemed inconceivable in Romania and in some groups even perceived as something to be ashamed of until recently now lose the stigma and is going mainstream, becoming a phenomenon in continuous growth and expansion of horizons, creativity and sustainability, exploring innovative approaches.

‘Tis the summer

The summer of all summers. As in the last two years we became accustomed to unforeseen events, crises, restrictions and tragedies, we had to realize that the future is extremely unpredictable. People are desperate to get away and enjoy this summer. They are not shying away from international destinations and big, once-in-a-lifetime adventures – epic destinations and an infusion of yolo moments.

Going rural

City-dwellers opt for suburban and rural advantages. People who were stuck in cities during the pandemic now want some of the perks of living in the country or at least to have as access to green spaces. Others want to plant a self-sustaining organic food garden to provide for a portion of needs, thus reducing the dependency upon the commercial food chain and have a better control over quality.

Log off

Because of the abuse of screen-time in their lives, people try to escape to the real world, in nature, without noise or wifi, to an in-real-life (IRL)/ no-internet “rehabilitation” as much as possible.

Common vision

Romanians are craving the presence of other people that share the same beliefs – relating more and more to the benefits of active participation in an open community or a private online group.
